چکیده

Effect of low temperature stress treatment in five selected clones of Camellia sinensis (T-17, TV-19, TV-25, TV-29, TV-30) was found to be significant. Guaiacol Peroxidase (GPX) decreased with decreasing temperature. PPO decreased with decreasing temperature showing highest activities at 20°C in all clones. CAT activit ies decreased in T-17, TV29, and TV-30 with decrease in temperature with exceptions in TV-19, and TV25 which showed increase catalase ( CAT) and guaiacol peroxidase (GPX) activ ities. A decreasing trend of lip id peroxidation was observed in all the clones with decreasing temperature. Total phenolics content was highest in all clones at 20°C with exception in TV30, which showed lowest at 20°C. Total sugar content was found to be highest in all clones treated at 20°C. The present study indicates that various clones of tea showed a range of physiological and biochemical sensitivities under a low temperature stress

Differential Proteomic Analysis of Chilling Stress Responses in Tea Plant [Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze]

Low temperature is one of the serious environmental stresses affecting plant growth and agricultural production. It not only inhibits metabolic reactions but also causes osmotic, oxidative, and other damages [1]. Chilling temperatures that range from 0 to 12°C are common during the growing season and can substantially decrease plant productivity [2]. Plants respond and acclimate to chilling str...

Transcriptomic analysis of the biosynthesis, recycling, and distribution of ascorbic acid during leaf development in tea plant (Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze)

Ascorbic acid (AsA), known as vitamin C, is an essential nutrient for humans and mainly absorbed from food. Tea plant (Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze) leaves can be a dietary source of AsA for humans. However, experimental evidence on the biosynthesis, recycling pathway and distribution of AsA during leaf development in tea plants is unclear. To gain insight into the mechanism and distributio...

Bioactive constituents of wood rot extract of tea, Camellia sinensis L.O. Kuntze against alates of low country live wood termite Glyptotermes dilatatus Bugnion and Popoff (Isoptera: Kalotermitidae).

Low country live wood termite (LCLWT), Glyptotermes dilatatus is attractive to rotted stumps of tea plant, Camellia sinensis. Rotted stumps are formed due to the attack of wood rot fungi in pruned stems. The objective of the present study was to investigate the response of LCLWT to extracts of rotted and healthy stems of susceptible tea cultivars, TRI 2023 and TRI 4042 and tolerant cultivars, T...

Green tea [Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze] extract reverses the despair behaviour in reserpinised and diabetic mice.

Green tea (C. sinensis) extract (GTE) dose dependently produced reversal of despair in normal, reserpinised and diabetic mice, thereby demonstrating an antidepressant effect. Although the exact mechanism is yet to be explored, the possible inhibition of catechol-o-methyl transferase and monoamine oxidase enzymes may be responsible for antidepressant activity of GTE.

Photosynthesis, Nitrogen Metabolism and Antioxidant Defense System in B-Deficient tea (Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze) Plants

Response of tea plants to B deficiency was studied in hydroponic medium under environmentally controlled conditions. Plants height, number of leaves and dry matter production of shoot and root were significantly decreased by B deficiency. Concentration of chlorophyll, carotenoids, anthocyanins and flavonoids was not affected by B deficiency in the young leaf, while a significant reduction of Ch...
